Kickstarter is a global crowdfunding platform based in the United States. The company’s stated mission is to help bring creative projects to life. It is full of projects, big and small, that are brought to life through the direct support of people. Kickstarter has reportedly received over $1 billion in pledges from 5.7 million donors to fund 135,000 projects, which include films, music, stage shows, comics, journalism, video games, and food-related projects. People who back Kickstarter projects are offered tangible rewards and special experiences in exchange for their pledges. This model traces its roots to subscription model of arts patronage, where artists would go directly to their audiences to fund their work. It’s an good opportunity for both of owner of the project and people who’re interesting on the project because it’s new way to find something new and Kickstarter help people who want to create new thing by use the new media to be a medium between people. In the same way, Kickstarter is not really like a social media but it is the community of creator who is creative can share their project, get the budget to do the project and make it come true! Even though, you’re just normal person but if your project are interesting and have funding successful in the limited times. For supporter, they will donate their money to help the project successful and then they will receive the project that they’re donated. People can share each project to any social media. Moreover, It makes people can reach and know Kickstarter more from use new media.

On June 21, 2012, Kickstarter began publishing statistics on its projects. As of July 24, 2013, there were 107,645 launched projects (3,990 in progress), with a success rate of 43.99%. The total number of dollars pledged was $717 million. The business has grown quickly in its early years. In the year 2010, Kickstarter had 3,910 successful projects and $27,638,318 pledged. The corresponding figures for 2011 were 11,836 successfully funded projects and $99,344,381 pledged; and there were 18,109 successfully funded projects, $319,786,629 pledged in 2012.

In conclusion, Kickstarter is very interesting website for anybody who want to create the new thing and want to find some budget to make it come true. In addition, it is interesting for anyone who want to find new things and support the project too.
